Ms. Hanish is a dedicated teacher and enjoys working with students of all ages and proficiency levels. She is currently on faculty at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Queens College Preparatory, Suzuki on the Island, and the JCC Thurnauer School of Music, and also teaches privately in the Brooklyn area.
Trained and certified in the Suzuki Cello Method, Ms. Hanish incorporates Suzuki, traditional pedagogy, and non-traditional styles of playing in her teaching. Lessons are tailored to a student's individual age and musical needs, and emphasize the enjoyment and exploration of music.
Ms. Hanish works with each student individually to build technique and musical appreciation through repertoire, studies and ensemble works. Lessons focus on the understanding and awareness of technique, exploring practice methods and how to problem-solve, improving time-management skills, increasing physical awareness and musical sensitivity, improving reading and ear-training skills, exploring non-traditional styles of cello playing, and preparing for recitals, auditions, or other performance goals.
Ms. Hanish has been involved with string & chamber music camps at Suzuki on the Island, the Elisabeth Morrow School, Cleveland Institute of Music Summer Chamber Music Camp, as well as the Michigan ASTA Jr. High String Camp. This summer she was coaching on faculty of the Western Reserve Chamber Festival in Cleveland, OH, as well as the Suzuki on the Island Chamber Festival in Manhasset, NY.
